Ladbrokes is a bookmaker company of Britain who has withdrawn itself from the race of operating Britain’s newly planned sixteen casinos. According to one of the spokesman from Ladbrokes they have conducted evaluation of their casino strategies and eventually made up their mind to pull out and the reason was due to the time duration for producing return on the capital that is used.

Mr. James who is the Culture Minister of Britain said that the Manchester’ supercasino will be closed. The sixteen casinos in which eight casinos are small and eight are large will be allowed within few weeks.

Now after the Ladbrokes refusing to bid for the licenses of the casinos, it has raised a concern for other gaming companies whether they will be making a bid for these casinos or not. The industry for land-based casinos has not been doing well for the past year. The casino duty has been raised in the budget, various machines have been removed by under the Gambling Act, and prohibition on smoking has also turned most of the clients.

As for the sixteen casinos it received many bidding from the local authorities and this will also enhance their local economy. The government did not recognize these plans that the ministers had contact with the gaming operators of America.

It seemed that Ladbrokes when it was a part of Hilton Group will be exiting the casino scene after it was known that it has sold their twenty six Ladbrokes casinos to Gala coral in the year 2000. Though it looked like that Ladbroke are making their way to make a comeback in the casino scene. Few years back Paddington Hilton Hotel was opened by Ladbroke in London and Ladbroke was also responsible for the failure of Blackpool’s bid for supercasino and made a plan for half of the newly opened sixteen casinos.

The departure of Ladbroke from making a bid for the new casinos made a deep impact and stopped the buzz that the company is taking control of Rank Group. For the past years the casino and Bingo operators has experienced a downfall in the revenues and there was a buzz that it will be taken over by gaming group.

Gala Coral have kept their options open and are making a bid for the sixteen casinos. Following have shown some concern- Rank Group, Genting, Las Vegas Sands, and Harrah’s Entertainment.
